Liberace Tub

My friend, and his partner bought a house in Toronto, and they have been working very hard at fixing it up.  (And doing a fabulous job)  I was bursting at the seams to show everyone this creation!  He gave me the go-ahead to post this on my blog...I hope you all are ready for this, because it is amazing:

  2. Todd, how are the glass tiles going to hold up with the hot/cold water in the tub and expansion etc.? I was skeptical when I first saw you tiling the tub but I think you just may have hit on a GREAT IDEA! Martha Stewart and designer girls eat your heart out! :)We still think it needs a rope light strip under the lip to just make it glitter a little more and to set a romantic tone.

  3. Todd said he adhered this with silicone, instead of thinset. I happen to work at a Flooring & Tile place, and I asked my Boss, "The BIG A.", his opinion. He said silicone is probably the best adhesive to use, due to the flexibility of it. Also, he recommends an acrylic grout as well. This is not to say any other method is not acceptable. Think of it this way: Usually, in a shower, the hot water heats from the top, down to the bottom layer, and there is some expansion from the top to the bottom. In this case, the heat would be from the bottom to the top layer. Regardless, there may be some hairline cracks in the grout, over a few years, as there very well may be in a normal shower. He believes it would probably be very minimal, and not noticable to the average person. This would not be much of an issue anyways, as the tile does not even get wet on the outside of the tub.
    I hope this helps, & a BIG Thank-You to "The Big A"!
