Carpet Tile Makeover

I work in a tile/flooring place. I see lots of cool things, and I want, I want, I want!  I have a hard time making up my mind.  Carpet tile was always in the back of my head, as something I wanted to put in my front porch. The commercial type of carpet tiles we primarily install in large office type areas.

The attraction:  It is durable, easy to clean, it will NEVER unravel, it is spillproof, has a heavy rubber backing, does not require underpad, office chairs roll over it with ease, it will not squish down in heavy traffic areas, and can handle dampness & soiled shoes. Due to the heavy rubber backing, the soil will not seep through the carpet, so when you vacuum it, it really does get clean!  Best of all, if a tile gets damaged, just make sure you have an extra few, and you pull 1 up, and replace it!
Installation:  It comes in a box, (tiles are around 20"x20") not a roll so it is easy to transport. It can be loose laid in smaller areas, glued down with a tacky glue,  (for ease of replacing a tile), or you can apply tape to attach the 4 corners of 4 adjacent tiles together.  Due to the fact it is so easy to handle, it makes it a dream for a DIY'er!
Design:  It is completley customizable!  You can do 2 colors in a checkerboard pattern, linear stripes down a room, a striped carpet tile can be laid all in the same direction, or alternate directions.  the perimiter of a room can have a border.  The possibilities are endless!

My Porch:  So, my front porch has seen better days.  It has its tidy moments, it has its untidy moments.  It is the room where everyone comes in, and "drops" things.  I was tired of the 1960's "pebble look" flooring.  The porch currently has 1980's "hunter green" paint, which covers the panelling, & ceiling.  (The paint stays till spring)  I have a beautiful church pew in there somewhere!

I am so happy!

& I installed it myself!  Without screwing up!

I, me, moi! I did it!
I have never installed tile, or carpet...ever.  It was so easy, any chump can do it!
I am WoMaN!  Hear me roar.
A very proud moment for me.
My husband is very impressed. (& I am sure he is happy that he does not have to do it!)

And, it only took 3 hours!

The Sleeman Nightstands

A steal of a deal of $20 bucks a piece for these babys! Solid oak, and cool carvings made them fun pieces to work with. The original was outdated, and a little heavy. (dark)  Be prepared for lots of photos - I am in love with these.

The after is softer, feminine, and classy.

Mmmmmmmm, creamy goodness.

I used my new favourite paint - Homemade chalk paint!   - the grout version - (More on that later)

I really didn't want to keep the original hardware, they were brass and also big & heavy.  My strict budget determined that they were staying, and just getting some ORB paint.  Maybe I will change them in the future.

I was so excited to get started on these, it only took 24 hours to finish them, from the time I picked them up!

Recycled & ready to decorate.

Old white wreath that had yellowed + Green spraypaint= Awesome fresh new wreath ready to decorate!

My Boss came into work with an old, yellowed (not in a good way) wreath.
She asked me what she should do with it..(because I think she thinks I am crafty)
I quickly said spraypaint it & re-decorate it
The next day she came in with the paint and instructed me to go outside & paint it!
I sooooo wish we had thought of taking a "before" picture...but here it is after.
You can see a bit of white poking through, and I like it!  Kinda like snow!

Red & Retro

I picked up these dressers at an auction 10 years ago for $10.  It was before I even knew how to properly paint furniture, but I painted them white for our Master Bedroom in our first house.  Then, I painted them black when I redesigned our master bedroom.

  Then we moved,
and I gave them to my offspring...
...they stayed scratched -
and yucky for 5 years!
(poor kid)
You'd think I could find someone
who can restore furniture!!
Now they are Retro Red & Chrome (spraypaint)!  Love it!!!!
(& so does the offspring)

Some really cool curves on these - You can't buy curves like that anymore!

This is really red in person, not orange.
